Ken Rosenthal has dropped an atomic bomb of “well well that’s interesting” on the Red Sox trade rumor landscape with this tweet:
More from Boston Red Sox
- After frantic trade day, Kiké Hernandez grateful for second chance with Dodgers
- MLB Rumors: Potential Braves reunion, Lance Lynn no-trade clause and Orioles deadline intentions
- Braves-Red Sox start time: Braves rain delay in Boston on July 25
- MLB Trade Grades: Dodgers reunite with familiar face in Red Sox deal
- MLB Rumors: Braves trade package, White Sox-Reds deal, Mets disaster
Does this mean the two of them are going to be dealt in the same trade or that they will both be dealt but in separate deals to different teams?
Gosh darn you inherent vagueness of Twitter reports.
Good thing Ken Rosenthal came back a few minutes later and offered the necessary clarification:
So, Boston is ready to trade two more starters after already dealing Jake Peavy. That means when it’s over they will have sold off 3/5ths of their starting rotation.
I’m sure this will go over big with David Ortiz and the rest of the veterans. But those guys don’t have much to cry about after the way this season has gone. Don’t want to see your good pitchers traded away? Don’t suck a year after winning the World Series.
The reality is that Boston has way too many impending free agents for comfort, so a fire sale is really their only option now that they’ve sunk out of the race. They should just dump everyone and start over.
