There really aren’t any bats out there so if the Yankees are going to make a splashy trade, it will have to be for a pitcher. One pitcher rumored to be on their radar is the Padres’ Ian Kennedy, and according to The Lohud Yankees Blog talks are still happening between New York and San Diego over the right hander.

More from MLB

However, these talks are not exactly what you would call “hot.” They are not even “heating up.” The word used by sources to describe these talks is “medium.” The size between small and large, if you need everything visualized in terms of fast food.

Medium talks are what you get when a team wants good prospects and you don’t have good prospects so you try to offer not-good prospects.

Kennedy would certainly help remedy some of the Yankees’ rotation issues, and it would be fun to get back a guy they used to have in their system, but it doesn’t seem the Yankees have enough ammunition to get such a deal done.

And if they can’t get Kennedy done, they probably can’t get Jon Lester or John Lackey done, not that the Red Sox would ever consider trading one of those guys to the evil evil Yankees.

They probably can’t get Cole Hamels done either. Would they consider Edwin Jackson? They could probably get him for a can of flat 7UP at this point.
