Even though the United States lost 2-1 to Belgium in the Round of 16 in this summer’s FIFA World Cup, the future was on full display and that future is very bright for the U.S.

When Julian Green takes the field with Bayern Munich in their upcoming trip to the U.S., fans who didn’t get to see the United States’ youngest World Cup goalscorer will get their first-hand look at what could be the future of the United States Men’s National team. Bayern Munich will take on Chivas Guadalajara on July 31 at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J., followed by a game against the MLS All-Stars in Portland on August 6.
Green made a lasting impression on the USMNT, along with the entire United States when he scored a goal against Belgium in extra time just a few minutes into his World Cup debut.
“I just want to try my best with the national team,” Green said in an interview with mlssoccer.com. “I’m happy to be a part of this team. Of course, I want to be the future of the US men’s national team. But it’s all about me. I have to score goals and be good on the field.”
Green is expected to play a big part in head coach Jurgen Klinsmann’s preparations for Russia in 2018 along with the other young American stars like DeAndre Yedlin and John Brooks.
“I think it’s very important to give the young guys a chance to play,” Green added. “I think we did a good job – me or DeAndre Yedlin or John Anthony Brooks. We have a lot of young, good players, and I’m looking forward to playing with them.”
“I know all the players from the MLS. I know how good they are. Of course, the football in American is getting bigger and bigger.”
While Green has to wait until Sept. 3 to rejoin the USMNT in Prague against the Czech Republic, he’ll look to earn his minutes under Pep Guardiola with his current club, Bayern Munich.

With Green playing for one of the world’s top teams, even though his minutes will be limited due to the fact that Bayern Munich features several players from Germany’s World Cup championship team, he’ll bring the top-tier experience that the USMNT needs going forward.
Last year with Bayern Munich, Green scored seven goals during their preseason. He went back to the reserve team afterwards and scored 15 goals in 23 appearances.
