According to reports, the Colorado Rockies plan to keep 41-year-old right-handed closer LaTroy Hawkins.
The Rockies had spent some time discussing a potential trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates that would have sent Hawkins to the Steel City, but after looking at the market and seeing what they could get in return they have ultimately decided to lean towards keeping Hawkins on the roster.
For Colorado, it appears that the veteran leadership he brings to the clubhouse is something that they aren’t willing to part ways with for the current price.
"Hawkins is liked for his reasonable $2.25M club option but also appreciated for the presence he brings to the young clubhouse. Hawkins has saved 17 of 18 games and is 2-2 with a 3.09 ERA, but he’s beloved by the Rockies mostly for his intangibles."
