As the San Antonio Spurs enjoy their latest offseason as NBA champions, it appears that head coach Gregg Popovich is kicking back and recovering from offseason hip surgery.

At least that is what was indicated in a recent report.
Dan Feldman of Pro Basketball Talk noticed a comment in a piece by John Canzano of The Oregonian detailing a trip to a vineyard in Oregon.
Canzano never came across Popovich, but he did apparently learn that the Spurs head coach underwent offseason hip replacement surgery.
"I did not encounter Popovich in person during his visit. I did find a trail of his appreciation and love for wine after he departed. He dined over the weekend at The Painted Lady in Newberg. Last Sunday evening, for a $750 charity donation, you could have joined a private gathering at Rex Hill that featured Popovich and Rex Hill winemaker Sam Tannahill. It was a reception and Italian dinner, and probably well worth every penny given that Popovich stood, acknowledging his discomfort from his postseason hip replacement surgery, and said a few words to the crowd about wines. Also, Popovich pledged that he’d match everyone’s donations from the evening."
Of course, the surgery will not affect Popovich’s ability to coach the team and he just signed a contract extension.
Just don’t expect to see Popovich jumping around the sideline anytime soon.
