It wasn’t even a week ago that New York Jets cornerback Dee Milliner was declaring himself the best cornerback in the league.
“The best corner in the league? Me,” Milliner told the Daily News. “I ain’t gonna say that somebody else is better than me.”
It certainly raised some eyebrows considering he plays in a Jets’ secondary that is considered ‘leaky’ and isn’t normally mentioned in that debate. Jets former special teams coordinator Mike Westhoff is amongst those that were shocked by his claims.
Westhoff went a step further to say he isn’t sure Milliner is the best cornerback on the team.
“I’m not sure he’s the best cornerback up here in Cortland,” Westhoff said on ESPN Radio on Wednesday, via the New York Daily News. “And I might include the University.”
In all fairness, Milliner’s comments came more out of a motivation or personal belief point of view than an actual claim.
“I’m not going to say somebody that plays the same position is better than me,” Milliner said. “Don’t care if they’ve been in the league 10 years and I’ve been here five months. That’s how it’s going to go. I’m the best. I’m not going to say that another man that plays the same position… and say he’s better than me? I can’t do that.”
