According to the Boston Globe, Lackey is generating interest from a handful of teams, including the Pittsburgh Pirates who are also believed to be in on Lester.
While the Pirates seem unwilling to give up the top prospects that it would take to acquire Lester, Lackey remains a possibility.
The asking price for the 35-year-old right-handed pitcher? Two minor league prospects and a major league player.
Pittsburgh isn’t alone on the pursuit of Lackey, however.
According to the Boston Globe report, the Kansas City Royals and Miami Marlins could also be making a play.
"The Red Sox, according to one major league source, were asking for a major league player and two prospects for Lester from all the suitors out there, which also included Oakland. They were also making Lackey available, and he was garnering interest from teams such as Kansas City, Miami, and Pittsburgh, who were also in on Lester."
Whether or not a deal can be reached in the next few hours remains to be seen.
