Robert Griffin III began to run the ball again in practice. The play was improvised, according to The Washington Post, but there will be some drawn up run, too. Gruden has a few read option plays in the book. As has been the case since RG3 hurt his knee, they won’t be quick to use those plays.

“It’s a part of every quarterback who can move around a little bit — their game,” Griffin said, via The Washington Post. “Everybody has run it, from Aaron Rodgers on down the list. It’s something you want to sprinkle in, keep the defense aware of, make them have to practice it, but it’s not something that you make the focal part of your offense. That’s why we have the guys that we have. That’s why we run the offense that we’ve been running, and you haven’t seen very much of the zone read. But it is there, and it’ll be utilized as Coach deems necessary.”
RG3 emphasizes his passing abilities. He has always been a pocket passer that just so happens to have 4.3, 40-yard dash speed.
“It’s not how I made my name,” he said. “I made my name throwing the ball in college when I won the Heisman Trophy at Baylor.”
It’s how he’ll have to make his name in the pros, too. Dual threat quarterbacks have been effective recently, but only if they pass first. With the help of some excellent additions at wide receiver in DeSean Jackson and Andre Roberts, RG3 and the Redskins are on course for a great year.
