Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Riley Cooper found himself in hot water last summer after being caught on camera using a racial slur at a concert. That incident created a bit of uneasiness in the Eagles’ camp, but they overcame it to win the NFC East title.

Though many don’t think about that incident anymore, Cooper certainly hasn’t forgot and is still embarrassed by the situation.

“Obviously, I was very embarrassed. I’m still embarrassed about the situation,” Cooper told NFL Media’s Michael Irvin on Thursday, via NFL.com. “Words hurt, and I’m crushed by it. But it felt good to know my teammates were supporting me. Just a simple, ‘Hey Coop, I’m here for you man’ or ‘Hey, praying for you man.’ ‘Hey, I got your back.’

“It meant a lot to me,” Cooper continued. “That was a huge deal, nationwide. That is a big deal. And to have the support from the guys that know ya, it meant a lot.”

Cooper had a solid season catching 47 passes for 835 yards and 8 touchdowns. He was rewarded with a five-year, $25 million deal. Now that DeSean Jackson is gone, Cooper could be expected to shoulder a bigger load.
