With the NBA schedule soon set for release, the leaks are coming in abundance. We’ve a possible San Antonio Spurs – Cleveland Cavs matchup on opening night. On Christmas night, the Cleveland Cavaliers are expected to take on the Miami Heat. Now, in the latest leak, the New York Knicks will be taking a trip to the nation’s capital to face off against the Washington Wizards on X-Mas.

If you’re looking for something to grasp from his Christmas Day matchup, it should be that the NBA has taken notice of this Washington Wizards team. With a core of John Wall, Bradley Beal, NeNe, and Marcin Gortat, this team has escaped the barracks of the Eastern Conference as they look to join the upper echelons as the conference has been left wide open thanks to LeBron James’ departure from Miami to Cleveland.

And of course, you’ve the team that everyone loves to hate in the New York Knicks. Carmelo Anthony remains a constant as the pieces have shuffled around him. No one is sure if this Knicks team is a playoff tea as-is, but with better coaching from Derek Fisher, anything could be possible.

With Paul Pierce in Washington as the starting small forward, this gives the Knicks-Wizards matchup a boost. Throughout his career, Pierce has been a constant thorn in the side of the New York Knicks. With his play being consistent last season, there’s no reason to think Pierce doesn’t continue his reign of terror on Knicks fans.

Last season, the Wizards beat the Knicks 3-0 in the season series in three tightly contested matchups.
