The possible return of restricted free agent Greg Monroe to the Detroit Pistons is certainly hitting some bumps in the road at the moment.

More from Detroit Pistons

Yahoo Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski has reported that  Monroe “doesn’t really have a great interest in going back and playing with the Pistons” and that the team has explored multiple sign-and-trade options.

Despite all of this, Pistons center Andre Drummond remains confident that Monroe will be a teammate of his next season.

From the Detroit Free Press:

"“Greg knows what it is,” Drummond said at the Mendenhall Center on the UNLV campus. “I’ve told him multiple times that he needs to come on home.“I need him there, and all the guys would love to have him back as well. At the end of the day, he’s got to do what’s best for him and his family.“I still have high hopes, and I’m pretty sure he is coming home, so I’m excited for this season.”"

As bleak of a picture as Wojnarowski’s report paints, Drummond has a good chance of being right here. At this point in the offseason there are few other teams that have the available cap space to sign Monroe and it’s clear the Pistons haven’t received a sign-and-trade offer to their liking.

There also remains the possibility that Detroit and Monroe don’t agree to a long-term extension and the big man returns to the team on $5.4-million qualifying offer and becomes an unrestricted free agent next season.

Monroe averaged 15.2 points (49.7 percent shooting from the floor) and 9.3 rebounds this past year.
