Over the trade deadline week, there was a rumor that Uggla was going to get released by the San Francisco Giants but that report ended up being nothing more than premature. According to Alex Palovic, the Giants have now — on Friday — officially designated Uggla for assignment.
Uggla’s fall from grace has been ridiculous to watch, but it just goes to show how flukey a baseball career can be. There was a time when Uggla was a slugger with the Florida Marlins but he didn’t translate well with the Atlanta Braves and is someone that the Giants didn’t really like in the short time they had him.
He barely lasted long with the Atlanta Braves and managed to last even less with the Giants during his short stint there.
