George chased down Houston Rockets guard James Harden and went up for a block, when he came down awkwardly with his foot near the backstop of the hoop. George’s leg snapped in half and he instantly went down in a heap of pain.
The early timetable for George’s recovery is nine to twelve months.
While George’s Team USA teammates made their way back to the hotel in disbelief and shock about the injury that brought an abrupt end to the game, George headed to the hospital for surgery.
From Candace Buckner of the Indianapolis Star:
George’s season is already all but over, but it is a positive sign to see the surgery taking place sooner rather than later.
The Pacers are expected to provide an update on Saturday.
“We are aware of the injury sustained by Paul George in Friday night’s Team USA game in Las Vegas and we are obviously greatly concerned,” Pacers president Larry Bird said in a statement. “At this time our thoughts and prayers are with Paul. We are still gathering details and we will have an updated statement Saturday.”
Our thoughts and prayers are with Paul George as he prepares to make what will hopefully be a full and speedy recovery.
