That sound you hear is the entire New Orleans Saints fanbase groaning in collective dismay. Saints fans are bound to be at least a little bit concerned after learning that star quarterback Drew Brees has been dealing with a strained oblique.

More from New Orleans Saints

Coach Sean Payton revealed that Brees suffered the injury in Friday morning’s practice session but implied that it’s nothing serious. Brees is being held out of practice Saturday but Payton indicated that the move was only precautionary. His status is officially day-to-day.

Sure. It’s only a minor strain and right now they’re just being cautious. That’s what they always say. And then they have to be a little more cautious and a little more cautious. And before you know it they’re sitting Brees out for the preseason. And then the season starts and somebody else is playing quarterback besides Drew Brees.

Who else do they even have in New Orleans, Bobby Hebert? Steve DeBerg? Archie Manning? I have no idea who the backup even is in New Orleans. I just know that if Brees is out for any length of time, the Saints are boned.

They thought their team went off the cliff when Sean Payton was suspended for a year, wait until they see what happens without Brees. But it probably won’t come to that anyway, since it’s only a mild strain and nothing serious and he’s day-to-day and they’re just being cautious.

Sure.
