Fantasy Baseball: Waiver Wire Starting Pitcher Pickups-August 4, 2014

facebooktwitterreddit

Monday starts another big week of fantasy baseball action, but there are only seven MLB games on the schedule. With such limited options, it’s tricky to find any help for your starting rotation on the waiver wire. However, there are a couple of pitchers who are worth a look who are available in most leagues. Here are my recommended pickups for Monday if you have to hit the wire for starting pitching. Both these options are somewhat high-risk, but they are the best options who are widely available for Monday’s limited slate

Gausman has allowed three runs or fewer in seven of his nine starts since being called up in early June.  In his last start, he picked up a win while holding the Angles to three runs on three hits in seven strong innings although he only picked up a pair of strikeouts.  Gausman’s K numbers have been a little down lately, but he still has the potential to help in that area as well as with an overall solid start. On Monday, he’ll be on the road where he’s fared much better (1-1, 2.86 ERA) than at Oriole Park (4-2, 4.24 ERA) this season. This will be his first start this season against the Nats as he takes on Tanner Roark in what should be a low-scoring game.  A win may be too much to ask, but Gausman is the best pickup option for this week.. 5-3, 3.70 ERA. @ Washington Nationals. Kevin Gausman. 1. player. 11

vs Detroit Tigers. Brandon McCarthy. 2. player. 43. Since coming to the Yankees from Arizona, McCarthy has turned in some pretty solid outings although he did get knocked around a little in Texas his last time out.  He’ll be back at home looking to win his fourth straight start on Monday as the Yanks open a huge series with the new-look Tigers.  McCarthy not only has to deal with the Tigers lineup, but he’ll have to beat Max Scherzer to get a win, so I expect a solid outing although his chances of getting a win aren’t that great.. 3-0, 2.44 ERA
