Morten Andersen, K (Saints 1982-94, Falcons 1995-2000, 06-07, Giants 2001, Chiefs 2002-03, Vikings 2004)

Ray Guy’s induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame opened the gates for all kickers and punters to be eligible.  While the ageless-wonder Morten Andersen was eligible in 2014, he didn’t make the cut.  That should change in 2015.

If stats and success play a role in choosing one for the Hall of Fame, then there shouldn’t be an argument against Andersen.  The league’s all-time leading scorer (2544) made 79.7 percent of his field goals (565-of-709) including 40 field goals made from 50-yards and beyond.  He also only missed just 10 career extra point attempts.

Andersen is a seven-time Pro Bowler, named First-Team All-Pro three times and was named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s first-team All-1980’s and 1990’s team.

Of his over 500 career field goals (most in league history), 166 of them were go-ahead field goals and 47 tied games.  Surprisingly, he only had six career field goals in overtime.

While Andersen does seem like a longshot overall, the NFL could make another statement in 2015 inducting him into Canton.
