The San Francisco 49ers will open up their 2014 preseason on Thursday evening, and it appears that one of their top draft picks will be getting some significant playing time as rookie running back Carlos Hyde is lining up with the first team in warm ups.
In pregame warmups, WRs Anquan Boldin and Stevie Johnson line up with the first team. Carlos Hyde is at running back.

San Francisco drafted Hyde out of Ohio State in the second round of the draft this past May, and so far he has been impressive in training camp.

Whether or not this sticks when the season starts remains to be seen, but he’s certainly being given the opportunity to show that he can carry the load.
With the recent injury to Kendall Hunter, coupled with the fact that Marcus Lattimore may not see the field for quite some time still, the Niners’ backfield is more or less in the hands of the rookie Hyde and veteran Frank Gore.
So on Thursday night, we’re going to get a very good look at just how effective the former Ohio State back can be in this vaunted San Francisco offense, possibly showing that he is indeed the future of the franchise at the running back spot.
