It has been quite the summer for the Louisville Cardinals and head coach Rick Pitino. The Cardinals picked up a commitment from 4-Star small forward Deng Adel. Less than a week later, it was 4-Star power forward Raymond Spalding who gave his pledge to the Cardinals. On Thursday, they added the third member to their 2015 recruiting class when 4-Star shooting guard Donovan Mitchell gave his pledge to the Cardinals.

“Coach Pitino told me that they see me not only as two guard but a point guard, that’s what they’re recruiting me as,” said Mitchell via Mike Hughes of 24/7 Sports. “They view me as somebody who can bring the ball up (court), doing pick and roll situations and being able to press up and down the court.”
The 6’3, 180-pounder is from New Milford, Connecticut and attends the Brewster Academy. His coach described what kind of player the Cardinals are getting.
“He’s somebody who will be ready from a physical standpoint and has played against tremendous competition,” Brewster coach Jason Smith said. “He’s very coachable, tough and defends. He’s played with other top players so he’s not a volume scorer like other high school players. Wherever he signs they’re going to get somebody who is ready to contribute from day one. He’s mature beyond his years.”
Mitchell is ranked as the country’s 28th-best shooting guard prospect, the second-best player in New Hampshire and the 83rd-best overall prospect in the class of 2015 according to 24/7 Sports’ composite rankings. Mitchell had a final four of the Cardinals, Boston College Eagles, Florida State Seminoles, Providence Friars and Villanova Wildcats.
