Diamondbacks’ David Peralta steals home on the Rockies (Video)

Baseball lesson of the day for all you young catchers out there. Don’t lollipop the ball back to the pitcher with a runner on third base. Because occasionally the runner on third base will take off and steal home on you.

This arguably should never happen to big leaguers, but it happened Friday night to the Rockies’ Michael McKenry. The catcher got a little sloppy returning the ball to pitcher Rex Brothers and the D-Backs’ David Peralta made him pay by stealing home.
It’s just a bold timing play by Peralta. He waits for McKenry to lob the ball casually back to the pitcher and takes off. By the time Brothers corrals the ball it’s too late for him to do anything about it.
Coaches say you have to always keep your head in the game. Well this is why they say that. If you let your attention lapse for one second, an aggressive, opportunistic player will make a fool of you. Peralta stole a run on the Rockies just because they fell asleep.
Bad show, Rockies.
