Greg Monroe rumors: Pistons’ Monroe ready to work on his contract
Although he entered free agency as one of the top big men on the market, Detroit Pistons’ restricted free agent big man Greg Monroe remains a free agent.

Although plenty of teams showed interest in Monroe early in free agency, most figured the Pistons would match any offer sheet Monroe signed and teams didn’t want to tie up cap space in Monroe only to see the Pistons keep him when they could have been after more attainable players.
Rather than working on getting a new contract, Monroe has been doing good work in Africa with the NBA’s Basketball Without Borders program.
“It’s been great to get out here, relax, clear my mind and take this new experience in,” Monroe told Matt Dollinger of Sports Illustrated. “I don’t listen to all of the reports and rumors — I’m just enjoying the fresh air.”
Monroe is on his way back to the United States and ready to work on getting a new deal.
“I’m heading back Saturday,” Monroe said. “We’re still trying to sort things out. I’m really not sure what is going to happen, I’ve just enjoyed my time here, and it’s been nice to get away and do something positive with my time.”
Monroe put up 15.2 points, 9.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 49.7% from the field and 65.7% from the free throw line last season.
