Jets WR David Nelson sees signs of Geno Smith’s development
By Mike Dyce
The New York Jets got a 13-10 win over the Indianapolis Colts in the preseason. A meaningless game that provided a bit of a moral victory. There were a couple of plays that might have looked less than exciting to jets fans, but to wide receiver David Nelson, they were signs of Geno Smith’s growth and development as a quarterback.

A blitz that went unblocked pressured Smith, who threw the ball at Nelson’s feet for an incompletion. A good play Nelson points out.
“I believe he had pressure off the edge, so he just threw it to the dirt to eliminate that,” Nelson said, via the Dallas Morning News. “That’s a situation where he’s growing.”
“That’s a situation where (you) don’t take a sack, (you) don’t throw a pick,” Nelson added. “We are in field-goal range, just take the three points, let’s go.”
Had Smith taken the sack be might have moved the Jets out of field goal range, and had he tried to complete the pass he could’ve thrown an interception. His quick decision kept the Jets in field goal range and Nick Folk converted the field goal, barely. Those three points ended up proving to be vital to their 13-10 win.
