We’ve made it! Football is back, and with that comes the over analyzing of the preseason, trying to find any advantage we can for our upcoming drafts. Many fantasy champions are made in the preseason. From analyzing rookies to scoping out all of the off-season moves, I will try to help you prepare as well. We’re going to start this series by listing key take aways from last night’s bevy of preseason games. Jacksonville Jaguars vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers:
- The biggest story from this game was Blake Bortles’s performance. Blake finished 7 of 11 for 117 yards. Dont let that line fool you, a few of those passes were dropped. Aside from that, Blake looked great last night. His performance can also take away some of pressure off of Toby Gerhart, which will be a key factor since Jordan Todman and Storm Johnson looked average last night.
- Chad Henne was a disaster. He even managed to draw some boos from the fans. In PRESEASON! This definitely helps Bortles’s stock, and for any Dynasty owners or multi QB leagues looking for a late round flier, Bortles can be your guy.
- The Jaguar defense looked pretty good. Yes, I know, it is only preseason. However, any improvement from a unit that was near the bottom in most NFL categories last year is welcomed. They held the Bucs to just 44 yards in the first quarter! To put that in perspective, safety Winston Guy had 24 more yards than that on his interception return for a touchdown on a wayward McCown pass.
- Tampa’s side of the ball showed very little for fantasy purposes. Mike Evans made no catches. Doug Martin had three carries for six yards. Josh McCown played horribly.
