Texas Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre hit his 393rd career home run to lead off the top of the sixth inning against the Astros at Minute Maid Park.  This ties him with former Cardinal and Angel Jim Edmonds for 56th on the all time home run list.

This was the 17th home run on the season for the 35 year old Beltre, which is kind of a disappointment for him since he has a string of three straight seasons with 30 or more home runs.

Beltre really burst on the scene in 2004 with the Los Angeles Dodgers when he hit .334 with 48 home runs and 121 RBI.  He finished second to Barry Bonds in the National League MVP race that year.  He then signed a lucrative free agent deal with the Seattle Mariners before the 2005 season.

Beltre has not come close to 40 home runs since.

The next rung on the home run ladder for Beltre is Joe Carter.  Carter hit 396 home runs in his 16 year career.

Adrian Beltre has a good chance to move up to 52nd all time before the end of the season.  If he meets his season projection of 24 home runs, that would put him at an even 400.  No player has ever ended their career sitting right on the 400 home run plateau.

That would mean that Beltre would pass Dale Murphy in 54th spot with 398 home runs, and Al Kaline and Andres Galarraga who are ties for 52nd place with 399 home runs each.

To move into the top 50, Beltre would have to pass Duke Snider (51st with 407 home runs) and Alfonso Soriano (50th with 412 home runs).
