Fantasy Baseball: Waiver Wire Starting Pitcher Pickups-August 11, 2014

facebooktwitterreddit

Monday’s the start of another important week of fantasy baseball, so don’t get to sidetracked during the dog days of summer and stay on top of your fantasy baseball team. There are only eight teams not playing today which should help you set your roster, but beware of the 1:05 start time in Phily which will lock up rosters early. If you need a starting pitcher pickup, check below for the three widely available pitchers scheduled to start on Monday in their first of two starts this week.

Whenever you find yourself in the market for starting pitching or if you’re a dedicated streamer looking for help every day, check out my my starting pitching pickups here on Fansided (archive and new posts show up here). After Saturday’s action my picks are 14-6 this month with a 3.24 ERA, a 1.17 WHIP, and a 7.96 K/9 rate.  My picks are rolling along right now, and hopefully this week is more of the same starting with these selections for Monday:

1. player. 2. Milone will make his first start for Minnesota after the Twins traded away Kevin Correia and recalled him from Triple-A. Milone himself was acquired in a trade from the A’s at the trade deadline, but hasn’t appeared in the Majors since July 4 when he last started for Oakland.  On the year, he’s 6-3 with a 3.55 ERA, and his matchup against the Astros makes him the best widely available option even though he does carry some risk after his absence from the Major Leagues.. 1.6% owned. @ Houston Astros. Tommy Milone

2. player. 32. Koehler has been up-and-down this season, but he’s been very good at home all year long.  His home ERA is 2.45 while on the road it’s elevated to 5.05.  He’s been pitching well since the break going 1-2 with a 2.92 ERA in his last three starts.  Since he’s at home and facing the struggling Shelby Miller, I think he makes a nice option as he takes the mound Monday.. 4.9% owned. vs. St Louis Cardinals. Tom Koehler

@ San Diego Padres. Jordan Lyles. 3. player. 108. If he can pick up the win on Monday, Lyles will be 7-1 despite a two-month absence in his first year with the Rockies.  He wasn’t lights out in his return last week, but got the run support he needed for a Coors Field win over Chicago. In this outing, he’ll face the light-hitting Padres in pitcher-friendly Petco making him a high-risk, potentially high-reward play.. 3.4% owned
