Although Detroit Pistons’ restricted free agent big man Greg Monroe is one of the top young big men in the game, he remains a free agent. Monroe is reportedly looking for a max contract but the Pistons haven’t been willing to give him one. They are, however, reportedly offering Monroe a deal that will make him the team’s highest-paid player (forward Josh Smith, who makes $13.5 million per season, is currently the highest-paid player).

Pistons’ owner Tom Gores made it clear the Pistons are still very high on Monroe and want him back.

“We think Greg is a great player,” Gores told Vince Ellis of The Detroit Free Press. “First of all, he’s done a really great job of establishing himself as a player in Detroit. He’s shown great respect to the city and as a young man he’s really done everything we could ask of him. With Greg we just believe in him. I’d like Greg to really get excited about being in Detroit because he deserves it. He’s really been good to the city. You’ve seen him. He’s good to the city. Stan is going to have to figure out exactly everybody’s role, but we’re believers in Greg Monroe. He’s not just a great player; he also has a good basketball character. I know it’s been a lot of the off-season stuff, but I’m a believer in Greg Monroe.”

Monroe put up 15.2 points, 9.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 49.7% from the field and 65.7% from the free throw line last season.
