You know, for a guy known more for his offensive prowess,

Jay Bruce

sure does make a lot of great defensive plays.  Cincinnati Red fans already knew that.  Miami Marlin fans found out the hard way today when Jay Bruce did this to fan favorite

Giancarlo Stanton

leading off the top of the eighth inning.

Stanton had already clobbered his National League leading 29th home run in the top of the first inning. This shot in the eighth was to be number 30, which would have tied him with

Nelson Cruz

for second in the Majors.  Jay Bruce had other ideas.

This spectacular catch by Bruce kept the score at 7-2 in favor of the hometown Reds, and that would end up being the final score.

More from Cincinnati Reds

Johnny Cueto went eight strong innings, giving up two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out nine to earn his 14th win of the season.  Those 14 wins tie him for the Major League lead with Wily Peralta and Adam Wainwright.

Stanton is only eight home runs away from tying his career high set in 2012 when he hit 37 long balls.  His 79 RBI are also only eight away from tying his career high of 87 set during the 2011 season.  It is safe to say that Stanton is having the best season of his career.   He just needs to remember not to hit anything that Jay Bruce can reach!
