There is only so much time that they can afford to continue to have pass before things get away from them. So it was that their home game against the Detroit Tigers, a fellow American League contender, seemed to pack just a little bit extra meaning on Sunday. The team came through in a big way with some clutch moments en route to a walk-off victory in 19 innings.
The payoff for these kinds of victories is just a little bit extra. This game ended up being the longest in Toronto’s franchise history. It was extended into the equivalent of two games thanks to clutch pitching and some outstanding defensive plays in the outfield by Colby Rasmus.
Having managed to extend this game long enough to have this chance and then capitalize on the opportunity with a star player at the plate, the Blue Jays enter this week with a kick in their step. In red uniforms and in front of a sold out crowd at the Rogers Centre, the Blue Jays delivered the kind of thrilling moment that they hope will propel them into a big playoff push.
