Brown has torn his right ACL twice during his time at Duke. He missed the entire 2012 season with his second ACL surgery and his right ACL was torn at the end of his freshman season in 2010, as well.
Brown was a first-team All-ACC selection in 2013 as the Blue Devils shocked many by winning the ACC’s Coastal Division, winning their last eight regular-season games after a 2-2 start.
Duke lost to Florida State 45-7 in the ACC championship game in Charlotte, N.C., and fell victim to a huge comeback by Johnny Manziel and Texas A&M in a 52-48 loss in the Chick-fil-A Bowl on Dec. 31, a game the Blue Devils led 38-17 at halftime.
Brown had 120 tackles, 11 for losses, last year while also notching two interceptions, a sack, two forced fumbles and two pass breakups.
The 120 tackles placed him third in the ACC behind teammates David Helton and Jeremy Cash.
"“When you have a great person, a great player and a guy that’s a stalwart in the program that’s had two knee surgeries, it’s upsetting to say the least,” Cutcliffe said of Brown’s latest injury. “Kelby is a very strong spiritual person, too, so he’ll be fine.”"
Brown went down while rushing the quarterback, grabbing his knee and pounding his fist into the ground before being helped off the field and onto a cart.
