Ohio State freshman linebacker Kyle Berger tweeted Monday that he tore his ACL, the second time in the last year he has sustained the same injury.

Berger, a four-star recruit from Cleveland’s St. Ignatius High School, missed all of his senior season last year after tearing the same ACL in a preseason scrimmage.

The 6-foot-2, 222-pounder was described as “a player with the size and athleticism for the outside linebacker position at the BCS level of play and he has a long frame which appears capable of supporting additional bulk over time,” according to ESPN.com’s recruiting evaluation.
The Buckeyes still have three highly rated freshman linebackers, with Raekwon McMillan expected to push for early playing time.
McMillan was ranked as one of the top freshmen in the country by College Football Talk last week.
Dante Booker and Sam Hubbard were also part of Ohio State’s haul at the position.
Coach Urban Meyer was excited about Berger’s addition to the program last spring, according to 24/7Sports’s Dave Biddle:
"I can’t wait to get him (Kyle Berger) here. Saw him the other day. 230 pounds and jacked" -- Urban Meyer. #Buckeyes @K_Bergs

Berger also had offers from Alabama, Michigan, Michigan State and Penn State, among others. He will sit out the season as a medical redshirt and have four years of eligibility remaining.
Ohio State was ranked No. 6 in the initial USA Today coaches poll.
