As far as unrestricted free agents go, you’re not going to do any better than than Dallas Mavericks’ free agent forward Shawn Marion right now (the top two players left on the market, Phoenix Suns’ guard Eric Bledsoe and Detroit Pistons’ big man Greg Monroe, are restricted free agents). Marion and the Mavericks have parted ways and he is looking for a new home.

Marion has drawn a lot of interest from both the Cleveland Cavaliers and Indiana Pacers lately. The Cavaliers just want to continue adding pieces around LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love and a veteran like Marion would be a nice fit. Of course, if he’s after playing time, the Pacers can offer that because of Paul George’s injury.
According to sources of ESPN’s Marc Stein, Marion had a face-to-face with the Pacers at the urging of Pacers’ president Larry Bird.

Marion averaged 10.4 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.2 steals per game while shooting 48.2% from the field, 35.8% from beyond the arc and 78.5% from the free throw line last season. Over the course of his career, he’s put up 15.8 points, 9.0 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.1 blocks per game while shooting 48.5% from the floor, 33.2% from three and 81.1% from the charity stripe.
