NFL: Studying how turnovers affect winning percentage
The 2012-2013 Philadelphia Eagles
2012: -24 turnover differential, 4-12 record
2013: +12 turnover differential, 10-6 record
Change In Differential: +36
Change In Win Total: +6
While the overhaul in Philly may not have been quite as massive as in Kansas City, the man who replaced Andy Reid as Eagles head coach did instituted a massive change in the day to day practices of his team. Consequently, the Eagles were a completely different team in 2013 and they continued to get stronger as the year went by. The play of Nick Foles at QB is probably the single greatest individual performance to point to, but the job Chip Kelly did of revitalizing the Eagles both on offense and defense was impressive. If you’re keeping track at home, so far both of the positive turnarounds in terms of turnover differential and win/loss record involved a coaching changes and noticeably improved QB play.
