Blackhawks will no longer play ‘The Stripper’ during Shoot the Puck
By Dan Zinski
Another sign that society is being taken over by the PC crowd: The Chicago Blackhawks have bowed to pressure from Twitter nags and announced that they will no longer play the song “The Stripper” during their “Shoot the Puck” promotion.

Organist Frank Pellico used to belt out the raunchy old tune any time a woman would participate in Shoot the Puck but that has gone by the wayside after a vigorous online campaign including a petition and a #BanTheStripper hashtag effort.
Blackhawks GM John McDonough told the Chicago Sun-Times:
"“We have to listen,” he said. “We have to be aware. We have to react when appropriate — not overreact, but react. We take all of this very seriously. We have had to take a look at every single element, every aspect of our operation, our hockey business from A to Z. I certainly have read the stories, and I understand the sensitive nature of all of that.”"
McDonough indicated that further moves could be made to create a more female-friendly atmosphere at Blackhawks games, given that 38% of the team’s fanbase is female.
Yes, but what percentage of those females were actually offended by “The Stripper” being played during Shoot the Puck? Once again, a very vocal minority has gotten its way.
The Blackhawks have not indicated what songs might be used in place of The Stripper. Whatever song they do use, I’m sure someone will be offended by it. Maybe just don’t have music at all? Or promotions? Or hockey games? Or any sports?
