One of those free agents is big man Marc Gasol, who is hitting the market but likely won’t hit it for long before he’s right back where he is at the moment.
According to Steve Kyler from Basketball Insiders, the odds that the Grizzlies give Marc Gasol a max deal in 2015 is rather high as the team wants to keep him at all costs.
"The odds that Marc Gasol is not in Memphis next year are fairly small. The Grizzlies are going to pay Gasol the max level money he’ll command; unfortunately, like Love, in order for Gasol to get all that’s available he’ll have to hit free agency in July.Gasol could sign an extension, but that would leave money on the table as he is now eligible for 30 percent of the upcoming salary cap projected to be $66 million. Doing the math, that’s a starting salary next year in the $19.8 million range, wherein an extension would be based on a minor increase on his $15.82 million salary this year."
Memphis isn’t about to let Gasol slip away from them and that’s just how things are going to end up. The bottom line is that the Grizzlies need Gasol and while teams like the Knicks may come knocking with offers, there is little chance that Gasol slips away from Memphis in 2015.
