These are two teams that are very familiar with each other for a few reasons. When Eagles’ head coach Chip Kelly was coaching the Oregon Ducks, Patriots’ head coach Bill Belichick visited with Kelly in order to better understand his uptempo, high-paced offense, something the Patriots have implemented in recent years.
That likely led to the other reason these two teams have become so familiar with each other – they practiced together in Foxborough together this week.
Patriots’ star quarterback Tom Brady didn’t play in the Patriots’ preseason opener, a 23-6 loss to the Washington Redskins but he was back on the field this week. His top wide receiver, Julian Edelman, also returned to action after a week off. Brady was leading an excellent drive – the Patriots traveled 50 yards on eight plays – but then disaster struck. Brady through an interception to veteran cornerback Cary Williams, who returned it 77 yards for a touchdown. On the play, Brady attempted to make a “tackle,” but dove in front of Williams and whiffed. You can see the play below.
