Larry Fitzgerald and DeSean Jackson could be fantasy busts

Fantasy Football is always exciting, even when you are having a bad season.  I cannot preach it enough, that no matter how bad you start,  you can always come back.  My brother started out 0-5 two years ago and came all the way back to go 7-6 and make the playoffs.

As some of you know, I have a Facebook page called Fantasy Football Insight and every year someone tells me “I quit, I’m 0-5”.  Winning and losing in Fantasy Football can be the difference between picking up a Keenan Allen or a Nick Foles on the waiver wire and not getting either of them.  If you start out 0-5 but do well on the waiver wire, you are going to win some games and give yourself a chance to win.

More from Fantasy Football

Last year, I had a special fantasy season that started out really bad.  I started  0-2 and then I made a trade that changed everything . I got rid of Tom Brady and Marques Colston and got Matthew Stafford and Stevan Ridley in return, which ended up working out fantastically.  I went on to win 14 straight fantasy games, and ended up winning the championship.

In my five years of playing fantasy football, I have never had a season quite like that.  In order to have those seasons, you have to nail the sleepers.  Like those of you that nabbed Josh Gordon did last year.

Here is a list of the players that I like and don’t like at each position, starting with the quarterbacks.  The running backs are here.

These are the wide receivers I like currently going outside the top-24 at wide receiver

Michael Floyd (Arizona Cardinals)- There was a report that a lot of people within the Cardinals organization believe that Floyd will be the number one wide receiver for the team this year.  I agree with that assessment.  I think Floyd is the Cardinals receiver you want because of the value.  I think Fitzgerald and him will be similar in numbers that is why I will pass on Fitzgerald and take Floyd later.

Reggie Wayne (Indianapolis Colts)- Reggie Wayne is a workhorse.  He can be that guy to come off a torn ACL and have a dominant season.  However, it looks like the Colts are going to T.Y. Hilton every time, even though Reggie Wayne didn’t play in the first game.  Wayne could easily be a guy to score double digit touchdowns with 1000-plus yards.  If they throw him the ball.

Emmanuel Sanders (Denver Broncos)- I was down on Sanders originally and then I looked and saw he managed 6 touchdowns last season in the Steelers offense.  He could easily score eight times in the Broncos’ pass heavy offense.  If healthy, Sanders is going to be the replacement for Eric Decker in this offense and although I don’t think he will put up Decker’s numbers, he will still be a solid fantasy producer.

Deep Sleeper:

Rueben Randle (New York Giants)- He isn’t a deep sleeper, but I think that people are just completely missing the boat with him.  Last season he was the Giants best passing option in the red zone and yet he doesn’t go before round 12 in any draft . I just don’t get that.  Randle will have a significantly better season then Hakeem Nicks did last season at that spot.

Players I don’t like currently going in the top-24 at wide receiver

Larry Fitzgerald (Arizona Cardinals)- I am really worried about Fitzgerald because I believe he is quite touchdown reliable. Fitzgerald lead wide receivers in red zone targets last season, which I don’t think will happen again this season.  He caught double digit touchdowns last season for the first time since 2009.  If you gave me the under/over at 9.5 for touchdowns, I’d be taking the under for his stock.

DeSean Jackson (Washington Redskins)- DeSean is an exciting playmaker, but right now he is being taken at the worst possible spot. He is currently going 14th amongst wide receivers, and I believe he should be way closer to 20 than the top 10. I think he was a product of the Chip Kelly system, and he benefitted.  This year, there are a lot of mouths to feed in Washington on a team that won’t throw it a ton.

Torrey Smith (Baltimore Ravens)- He’s a boom or bust play every week.  Last year the deep touchdowns weren’t there for Smith, and I don’t see why that is going to change this year.  Sure, they signed Steve Smith, and now they have Gary Kubiak at offensive coordinator, but Kubiak has never worked with a player with his kind of speed.  So nobody really knows how this going to work.  The defense will always put a guy over the top on Smith so they can’t get beat deep.  This will likely hamper his value.
