The New York Knicks tried to make a few moves, attempting to deal big men Amar’e Stoudemire and Andrea Bargnani, to make room to sign another big time free agent, perhaps Los Angeles Lakers’ big man Pau Gasol, who wound up signing with the Chicago Bulls, to pair with Carmelo Anthony. However, once Anthony decided to re-sign with the Knicks, they knew they could let the contracts of Stoudemire and Bargnani play out and be a player in free agency in 2015.

Chuck Myron of Hoops Rumors was asked if the Knicks could land two max free agents (specifically Boston Celtics’ point guard Rajon Rondo and Memphis Grizzlies’ center Marc Gasol) and doesn’t believe they will be able to afford two unless J.R. Smith turns down his player option.

"Yeah, that’d be tough to do unless some serious discounts are involved. It would help them quite a bit if J.R. Smith turns down his player option, but that’s unlikely to happen as it stands now. It’d be one or the other, at best."

Rondo was limited just 30 games while returning from his knee injury. He averaged 11.7 points, 9.8 assists, 5.5 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game. He shot 40.3% from the field, 28.9% from beyond the arc and 62.7% from the free throw line. In his career, he’s put up 11.1 points, 8.4 assists, 4.6 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game while shooting 47.5% from the floor, 25.2% from three and 62.1% from the free throw line. Gasol went for 14.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1.3 blocks and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 47.3% from the field, 18.2% from beyond the arc and 76.8% from the free throw line in 59 games last season. In his career, he’s averaged 13.5 points, 7.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.5 blocks per game while shooting 51.2% from the field, 15.2% from beyond the arc and 74.9% from the free throw line.
