Match of the Night: Ambrose and Rollins make a lumberjack match awesome.

Speaking of stupid stipulations, a lumberjack math has to be one of the worst ones. More often than not, the lumberjacks just distract or hinder the match and story going on in the ring.

Leave it to Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins to throw the usual WWE trope to the side and make something incredible out of it.

Usually the lumberjacks are used for two purposes: to get people back in the ring or to get an opponent beat up by a heel/face faction. In this match, they were completely terrible at both jobs and it lead to an incredible match that spilled into the crowd.

Ambrose suplexed Rollins onto a group of lumberjacks. In the resulting melee, Seth managed to escape into the crowd. As punishment for their failures, Dean just beats the hell out of a group of lumberjacks en route to running across the announce tables to launch himself into Rollins.

That wasn’t even the best spot of the match. The spot of the match, and the night, had to be Dean giving on to every single lumberjack as Seth Rollins was forced back into the ring via body-surfing. Dean’s reaction afterwards was even better:

Ambrose also had himself quite a moment of character building towards the finish of the match. He had a Michael Corleone moment of kissing Rollins as an acknowledgment of his betrayal months ago and, nearly on the verge of tears, tries to exact his revenge by stealing Seth’s Curb Stomp finisher.

With all of this going on, I don’t even care how the match finished. The journey to the end of this match was that incredible.
