Please tell me that A.J. Lee is channeling Mickie James.

Let’s get this obvious out of the way: this match was terrible. As soon as A.J.’s music hit, I just waited for the eventual distraction roll-up loss for Paige because a rival’s music is more effective than sixteen Brock Lensar suplexes.

After the match, the real magic happened. A.J. professed not just her respect, but her love for Paige. At first, you think she’s just playing games with Paige but then she says she has dedicated her life to Paige and it’s clear she’s just snapped:

Seriously, that’s unhinged and AWESOME.

I’m hoping that A.J. is channeling a bit of Mickie James. For those not familiar, Mickie James had one of the best rivalries the women’s/divas division has ever seen with Trish Stratus. What made it great was the character that Mickie portrayed. She went from Trish’s biggest fan, to falling in love with her, which morphed into an unhealthy obsession with Trish.

Now, in that program, Mickie was the heel, so it is going to be interesting to see how A.J. plays this going forward. Unlike Mickie, Paige pushed A.J. into this mental state and, based on A.J.’s previous (kayfabe) history of being somewhat mentally unhinged, that was quite the dangerous game to play. Paige has likely just unleashed a monster.

I really hope I’m not getting my hopes up here and this gets retconned/explained away as A.J. messing with Paige. There is so much potential here.
