David Nelson: Geno Smith is the guy for New York Jets
By Cory Buck
While the New York Jets remain mum on their Week 1 starters for the NFL season, wide receiver David Nelson believes the starting quarterback job already belongs to Geno Smith, who has yet to be named starter over Michael Vick.

“When the coaches say, ‘First-group offense,’ we know who’s walking in the huddle,” Nelson said Tuesday, per ESPN New York. “It’s not something that needs to be said. He’s the guy and we’re moving forward.”
Geno Smith has had a decent two games to start the preseason, despite having zero touchdowns to one interception. He’s gone 14-for-19 for 131 yards and at worst has drawn even with Vick.
Nelson has been a solid supporter of Geno Smith for a while now, and he’s likely not the only one to feel that way, and still head coach Rex Ryan refuses to confirm or deny Smith as starter.
“I’m not going to name it right now, no matter how many times you ask me,” Ryan said. “Somebody fire another one at me. ‘I’m going to get it out of him.’ No, you’re not. I’ve given in to you guys before. I’m not giving in on this one.”
The alleged competition continues between Smith and Vick on Friday when the Jets play the New York Giants in the Meadowlands at 7:30PM EST.
