Kendall Wright would play QB ‘immediately’ if Titans asked
By Cory Buck
The Tennessee Titans are short a quarterback as backup Charlie Whitehurst deals with a finger injury. Head coach Ken Whisenhunt acknowledged per The Tennessean the possibility of suiting up only two quarterbacks for the team’s third preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons. He also named the top candidate for the third quarterback should the team need one.

“I’d put Kendall back there in the shotgun and let him run around with it,” Whisenhunt said. “He can throw it, too.”
Kendall Wright, a third year receiver out of Baylor, had a breakout 2013 campaign, quietly tallying 94 catches for 1,079 yards in an offense mostly led by journeyman QB Ryan Fitzpatrick.
The Titans are hoping that Wright can improve on those numbers with Jake Locker as the team’s starter. Given Locker’s injury history though, it never hurts to be safe.
Kendall Wright, meanwhile, was thrilled by the idea of playing if Locker or rookie Zach Mettenberger are unavailable.
“I’d be ready,” Wright said. “If he needed me to do that, I’d do it immediately for him, preseason game, regular season game, any game. … And I think I’d be pretty good back there. I think I could make something happen.”
The Titans offense will try to make something happen after getting clobbered in Houston 32-7. Kickoff at Atlanta is scheduled for 7PM EST.
