Giants win protest, suspended game vs. Cubs will resume Thursday
By Dan Zinski
The San Francisco Giants were a bit miffed Tuesday night when a tarp mishap caused Wrigley Field to be flooded with rain water, leading to the ultimate suspension of the game in the fifth inning with the Cubs being declared the winner by rule.

The Giants lodged a protest with MLB over the entire mess, and in a somewhat surprising turn of events, actually won the protest. As a result, the Giants and Cubs will resume the suspended game Thursday afternoon at Wrigley Field, assuming mother nature cooperates this time.
Weirdly enough, it seems the Cubs themselves supported the Giants’ side of the protest even though the ruling cost them a win. The team admitted, though they technically didn’t have to, that a mechanical failure played a part in the tarp not being properly deployed in the fifth inning when the rain started falling.
Giants manager Bruce Bochy complimented the Cubs on their honesty after the winning appeal.
"Bochy said the Giants were only aware of the mechanical malfunction because the Cubs volunteered that information. Cubs officials have said repeatedly that they took responsibility for the error, they respected the fact the Giants are in a pennant race and supported the league finding cause to rule it a suspended game.“I really have to compliment the Cubs,” Bochy said."
The Good Guy Cubs helped the Giants to the first successful protest since 1986. Hopefully they’ve worked out their tarp issues so this crap doesn’t happen again.
The game will resume at 5:05 ET Thursday in the bottom of the fifth with the Cubs up 2-0.
