Mo’ne Davis sets records for highest-rated LLWS broadcast
Pitching pgenom Mo’ne Davis may have lost 8-1 in her start to Las Vegas, but she set television records in the process. For an athlete as competitive as she is, it’s probably not much consolation. But she was feature on ESPN’s highest rated Little League World Series broadcast in history.

The final viewership number will be released today, but ESPN’s 3.4 rating topped CBS’ final-round rating of 3.1 at last sunday’s WGC-Bridgestone invitational. Her performance easily topped the Yankees and Red Sox ratings. The game’s 1.7 rating paled in comparison to Davis.
What’s the fuss about?
“She’s pretty special,” said Dr. Jeremy Ng, a sports and performance medicine physician at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
Davis made history twice already. She was the first girl to throw a shutout at the Little League World Series. She struck out eight and allowed only two hits as she led the team past Nashville to a 4-0 victory on Friday. Afterwards, she was the first Little Leaguer to get featured on Sports Illustrated‘s cover.
The game was outstanding in local markets. It got a 16.3 in Las Vegas and 14.9 in Philadelphia.
Davis’ is down but not out in the Little League World Series. Her team, Philadelphia, faces elimination against Chicago tonight on ESPN at 7:30. If they win, Davis could get a shot a redemption against Las Vegas on Saturday.
