Most pass attempts

Current record: 727 (Matthew Stafford)

If the Cowboys are going to win games this year, they’ll have to consistently do it by coming out on top in a lot of old west style gunslingin’. That means Tony Romo’s pitch count could reach a record high.

It’s not a difficult outcome to forecast due to the lack of support coming from a defense that’s lost DeMarcus Ware to the Broncos, Sean Lee for the season, Orlando Scandrick for four games because of a suspension, and DeMarcus Lawrence could be gone for up to six games after breaking his foot.

Combine that with the presence of new offensive coordinator Scott Linehan, and the Cowboys might not attempt a single run. Linehan comes to Dallas from Detroit, where he dialed up 663 passes for Matthew Stafford in 2011, and followed that with a record-setting 727 in 2012. Stafford’s name occupies two of the top five all-time single-season highs for pass attempts.
