The Philadelphia 76ers had plenty of money to spend in free agency but didn’t seem very interested in spending it. Instead, they will conserve their cash and continue to build around their young talent.

Eric Pincus of Basketball Insiders believes the 76ers will instead be taking on unwanted contracts.

"Of course, the Philadelphia 76ers can max out their cap space at a massive $32.5 million, although the franchise seems to have no interest in spending any of that in free agency. Look for the Sixers to bring in other squads’ unwanted contracts, with draft picks being the fee"

The 76ers have been connected to New York Knicks’ big man Amar’e Stoudemire, who the Knicks (along with big man Andrea Bargnani) tried to trade earlier in the offseason. Of course, if the Knicks have to give up any real assets for Stoudemire (or Bargnani), it doesn’t make a lot of sense. Both players will become unrestricted free agents following the season and the Knicks can simply let them walk and open up nearly $35 million in cap space.

Despite staying relatively healthy last season (he missed 17 games), Stoudemire had one of the worst seasons of his career. He put up just 11.9 points and 4.9 rebounds per game while shooting 55.7% from the field and 73.9% from the free throw line. Over his career, he has averaged 20.4 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.3 blocks in 33.0 minutes per game while shooting 53.5% from the field and 76.2% from the charity stripe.
