The league’s game-tempo-spoiling emphasis on enforcing illegal contact rules this preseason has given birth to a lot of conspiracy theories and other wacky speculation on ulterior motives.

Richard Sherman, a guy who has benefited a lot in his career from referees looking the other way on potential illegal contact calls, has possibly the best and most air tight theory of them all.
He thinks it’s all about fantasy football. The outspoken Stanford-educated cornerback told NBC’s Josh Elliott (via The Big Lead):
"“When the fantasy football numbers need to be what they need to be, then the league needs to do what it needs to do to get it done. This is a money-driven league, so whatever sells the tickets is gonna sell the tickets.”"
I applaud Richard Sherman for going with this theory and not the much-more-obvious “they are trying to stick it to the Seahawks” hypothesis.
Fantasy football being the driving force behind the league wanting to basically outlaw defense? I can see that. It makes sense to me.
But, let’s not stop there. Let’s keep peeling that onion until we find the real truth. Who ultimately stands to gain the most from fantasy football numbers going through the roof?
Yada yada yada Illuminati yada yada yada New World Order yada yada yada Bilderberg.
I’m not sure exactly how the dots connect yet, because I’ve only begun doing my research (which BTW involves taking a lot of peyote), but I’m confident I can tie together the league’s emphasis on illegal contact with aliens, JFK, the Loch Ness Monster and Area 51.
Just give me a minute.
