The Cleveland Cavaliers are set to be the NBA Champions this year — and the season hasn’t even started yet. Acquiring Kevin Love has worked wonders in terms of the Cavaliers being favorites to win the NBA Finals, but there’s an ugly flipside to that which could see Love and the Cavaliers having a falling out.

More from Cleveland Cavaliers

According to Nate Duncan from Basketball Insiders, the Cleveland Cavaliers could scapegoat Kevin Love if the team fails to be the Dream Team everyone is imagining it as being this season.

"I see your point that Love could get scapegoated. If the inquiry is player most likely to be blamed if his team does poorly, Love could be at the top of the list. Cleveland’s defense is likely to be its Achilles heel (if it has one at all), and with Love getting the vast majority of the minutes at the 4 and maybe possibly even playing the 5, he can and probably should get a lot of the blame if Cleveland’s defense does not perform."

It’s not all the unbelievable to think that Love could be scrutinized all season long and be the scapegoat if the Cavaliers aren’t that good. It could also be a something that drives a wedge between the Cavaliers and Love, as lest we forget that Love isn’t signed long term in Cleveland and is merely a one year rental at this point.
