NFL: 10 best backup quarterback situations
By Bryce Olin
8. New Orleans Saints: Ryan Griffin/Luke McCown
If the Saints could pick a backup, this situation would be higher on the list. Who wouldn’t want to backup Drew Brees in Sean Payton’s offense?
Brees rarely misses games. In fact, he hasn’t missed a game since 2009. That’s an easy job for a backup. Stand around on the sidelines, say a couple words to Brees every once and a while, and pretend you care what’s going on in the game.
If for some reason Brees did end up hurt, the weapons the Saints have to work with would be a backup quarterback’s dream. Jimmy Graham, Marquise Colston, Kenny Stills, Brandin Cooks, and Lance Moore are as good of a receiving corps as there is in football. I’m pretty sure JaMarcus Russell couldn’t even mess up that offense. Throwing the ball around the yard would be no problem for anyone with half a brain and a good arm.
Plus, from what I hear, New Orleans is one of the coolest places to live in America. It’s a non-stop party. How did Matt Leinart not end up as the Saints’ backup quarterback?
