NFL: 10 best backup quarterback situations
By Bryce Olin
7. Philadelphia Eagles: Mark Sanchez
Look how far the mighty have fallen. At least 50 percent of Mark Sanchez’s fall from starting quarterback in the biggest media market to backup quarterback in Philadelphia is because of the butt fumble.
Okay, not really. Sanchez never got enough credit for how well he played at times with Jets. At the end of his run, the Jets’ offense had been decimated, and Sanchez literally had nowhere to throw the ball. It was not his fault the receivers couldn’t get open, the running backs couldn’t run, and the offensive line couldn’t block.
Sanchez didn’t do himself many favors, though, but that’s all different now with the Eagles. Head coach Chip Kelly might have something in store for Sanchez, like resurrecting his career perhaps. I don’t think Nick Foles, with that offensive line, can withstand the hits he will take over the course of the season. Sanchez might get another shot to prove what he’s worth in a much better, more fluid offense than what he had with the Jets.
Sanchez also has a little time to kick back outside the spotlight, relax, and wipe a few boogers on his quarterback brethren.
