3. Indianapolis Colts: Matt Hasselbeck
What a luxury Matt Hasselbeck must be for Andrew Luck. Typically, the relationship between an established veteran and a young quarterback can be tumultuous. (See the Brett Favre-Aaron Rodgers relationship, if you doubt me). So, it’s a breath of fresh air to see an older quarterback embrace his role as a backup and help the younger player grow.
At this point in his career, Hasselbeck probably isn’t able to play the full 16-game schedule in an NFL season. It’d be too difficult for him to take the hits over and over again. With Indianapolis as a backup, Hasselbeck can still contribute by using his experience to help the team and Luck, especially, be successful, and he’s also there waiting on the sideline if Luck gets injured.
Since Luck is built more like a tank than a human, Hasselbeck can rest easy at night knowing he’s still gettin’ them checks without having to sacrifice his body anymore. It’s a win-win-win for Hasselbeck, Luck, and the Indianapolis Colts… as long as Hasselbeck doesn’t do anything like this:
