Texans CB Andre Hal gets the 77-yard pick-6 on 49ers’ Josh Johnson (GIF)
The football lord giveth and he taketh — or something like that. With about nine minutes left in the third quarter, 49ers linebacker Chris Borland pick-sixed Tom Savage. About six minutes later in the game, Texans cornerback Andre Hal took 49ers quarterback Josh Johnson’s throw back the other way for a touchdown.

Hal was the first pick of the seventh round this year. Oh, and by the way, this is Hal’s second pick 6 of the preseason. The rookie cornerback out of Vanderbilt is fighting for a roster spot and, at least, a place on the Texans’ practice roster. This certainly helped his chances. He’s got nose for the ball and the end zone. If all else fails, they could just line him up at wide receiver, as he’s got more touchdowns than most offensive rookies do.
On the other hand, the 49ers search for a legitimate backup quarterback drags on. Blaine Gabbert and Johnson have struggled mightily, as neither quarterback has proved they are viable options in the event that starter Colin Kaepernick goes down.
